Canada Bay Council: What your candidates said

City of Canada Bay Council will ask residents to vote on the nine councillors they want to serve for the next four years, as well as directly elect the mayor.

The council is currently led by Liberal mayor Michael Megna, who was appointed to the position after Mayor Angelo Tsirakis was found by the Independent Commission Against Corruption to have engaged in serious corrupt conduct. He was then sacked from the council.

The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 23 candidates up for election at the City of Canada Bay Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Six responded.

Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.

We asked candidates where they stood on key policy issues they’re likely to vote on while in office, and what they thought about the current state of council services. Click the below buttons to see the results.
