South of Sydney’s CBD, Bayside residents are voting for the councillors they want for the next four years.
It has five wards, with voters in each ward selecting three councillors. The current council has a Labor majority, led by outgoing Labor mayor Bill Saravinovski.
The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 80 candidates up for election at Bayside Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Of those, 22 responded.
Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
We asked candidates where they stood on key policy issues they’re likely to vote on while in office, and what they thought about the current state of council services. Click the below buttons to see the results.
